Why we need to have a conversation
Nearly half of women (47%) are the primary breadwinners in their households, and 27% of married women now say they “take control” of financial and retirement planning.
Women live, on average, five to ten years longer than men. Women are 10 times more likely to live to 85 than men. Only 26% of women over the age of 75 have a spouse to provide them with care.
According to recent research, Medicare only pays 68% of health care needs. Some benefits may come from previous employment, Medigap plans or your savings.
When it comes to payment for Long Term Care (LTC) you need to know the facts.
You should know, there are three levels of LTC, Skilled Nursing, Intermediate Care and Custodial Care. So many people think that Medicare or private insurance will cover the costs of Long Term Care, but unfortunately that is not so. Medicare only pays a portion of Skilled Nursing costs. The Affordable Care Act does not cover LTC expenses. Medicare only provides limited LTC coverage for a defined period of time, and only covers what is called Skilled Nursing. The majority of LTC costs fall into the “out-of-pocket” expense category. And “out of pocket” means out of your pocket or the pockets of your family... maybe even your children. Is that what you are planning?
When I first started my career in the insurance field many years ago, I remember something my trainer said to me…It’s not that people Plan to Fail… it’s that they Fail to Plan. And over time I have seen that play out way too often. I have also learned that Knowledge is Power… so let’s at least have the conversation so you can get the information you need to plan accordingly.
Being an insurance broker for the past 39 years I have seen the results of putting off planning for a possible future where you may need Long Term Care. I am seeing firsthand the effects of both planning and not planning.
I encourage you to take advantage of what I know and let me help you with your Planning. Let’s have a conversation.
